The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Kern Medical Center is a 28-bed comprehensive patient care unit. Thanks to our staff Neonatologist and specially-trained Neonatal Intensive Care Nurses, we are fully prepared to support low- and high-risk infants helping them overcome their difficult beginnings. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the only NICU in Kern County to be accredited as the regional referral center by California Children's Services. Emphasis is placed on comprehensive, high-quality care for babies as well as emotional support for their families.
The NICU also provides a 24 hour-transport service with a team consisting of a Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist and/or a staff Neonatologist. This group of extraordinary professionals is charged with the task of stabilizing and transporting compromised neonates from other facilities to Kern Medical Center for comprehensive care.
