Department of Family Practice
The goal of the Family Practice Program at Kern Medical Center is to train medical graduates to become quality family physicians skilled in and dedicated to the practice of primary care, oriented to the basic unit of society - the family.
This is a well-rounded teaching program with exposure to a large multi-cultural patient population. Residents have the opportunity to train with peers of other specialties, and there is a strong emphasis in pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology and adult and newborn intensive care. There is also an active behavioral science curriculum, with emphasis on group and individual support to our residents and patients.
Our program is small and close-knit. There are six residents at each level of training. Residents value the personal attention of the faculty, and their commitment to teaching and patient care.
