Housing
Although housing is not provided by Kern Medical Center, ample housing is available in Bakersfield.  A definite perk when considering Bakersfield is that the rental market is reasonable.  A one or two bedroom apartment usually rents for $500 - $1000 per month.  A lot of complexes also accept month-to-month contracts, alleviating the need for a lease.

Transportation
In Bakersfield, housing is probably not close enough to the hospital to walk so it’s advisable to have a car during the clerkship(s).  Also, some off-campus rotations are located farther from campus, making a car a necessity.

Meals
Kern Medical Center does not provide meals to medical students; however, you may obtain meals at the KMC cafeteria at a 28% discounted rate.
