About Our Department
The Cardiopulmonary team has achieved major accomplishments over the past several years.
The spontaneous breathing trial and Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) programs have
significantly reduced the time our patients spend on mechanical ventilation.
Departmental cross training of therapists into Cardiac diagnostics, Pulmonary function
testing and Electroencephalogram (EEG)
lab has helped to increase the efficiency of the division.
The Respiratory therapy division is responsible for the organization and instruction of the hospitals
adult and pediatric advanced life support training programs; provides the operating room with a team of
therapists that operate our two Cell saver machines; teams with the laboratory by operating the
arterial blood gas (ABG) machine in NICU,
and draws the majority of the ABG’s at KMC. Cardiopulmonary also provides therapists for the code blue
and rapid response teams.
